rd1Fort Worth, Texas - Kicking off the 2009 TORC Series season under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway, Rockstar Energy Racing's Rob MacCachren grinded out a podium finish after a wet and soggy weekend of short course off road racing.
Round 1 kicked off Friday night and the Las Vegas Rockstar athlete immediately got to work as he claimed the pole position with the fastest qualifying time among the elite Pro 2 ranks.
MacCachren noted, "It's been a really long off season and our team has worked hard towards starting off the season on the right foot, I'm glad we could give Rockstar and BFG the fastest qualifying time in what we expect to be a great season of racing."
As the green flag dropped on Friday night, MacCachren charged his gloss black Rockstar Energy Racing FORD F-150 to a big lead over the field. He carved lines that worked best for the Patton Racing powered FORD F-150 on the small and technical 5-turn dirt track. However, as MacCachren neared lap 15, the #11 Ford F150 began losing ground and two laps later, the right rear tire shredded into oblivion, leaving the off road racing standout with little he could do. He continued charging the Dave Clark-built Pro 2 taking the checkered flag in 4th position, claiming important championship season points.
torcMacCachren was awarded TORC's OAKLEY Bomb award for the fastest lap during the Pro-2 racing action. A driver is given this award each race and at the end of the season the driver with the most amount of OAKLEY Bombs will be crowned and awarded by OAKLEY.
Round 2 of the 2009 TORC Series was held before a large Texas crowd at the 10,000-seat dirt raceway that was home to the .52-mile purpose-built dirt racecourse.
Overnight, between the first and second rounds, the TMS Dirt Track was subjected to 12 hours of torrential Texas rain after a weather system moved into the Fort Worth area and dumped several inches of rain on the area. Three-foot deep pools of water formed on the track as TMS officials worked diligently to drain the water and prepare the track for Saturday night racing.
caliente250Saturday's Round 2 afternoon practice and qualifying were cancelled earlier in the day due to the remnants of the wet storm that soaked the race track.
Starting fourth in the #11 Rockstar Energy Racing Ford F-150 in the field of 15 starters in the Pro-2 race that ran 20 laps. It wasn't long before Rob MacCachren charged his Pro-2 to the bumper of the leader who started from the pole position.
The Rockstar Energy Racing Ford diced it up with Ricky Johnson, as the two battled door-to-door at times for the second spot. All the while, Scott Taylor continued to run in clean air out front and never looked back. In the end, MacCachren drove the #11 to the third spot on the podium.
caliente250"It's been a good solid weekend and we have some work to do to get faster and put this Rockstar Energy Racing #11 Pro 2 in the winner's circle at the next race. We have a new team and this weekend began a new era in the world of Rob MacCachren Racing and our Rockstar Energy Racing team," said MacCachren.
The one-hour show from the 2009 TORC Series Rounds 1-2 is set to air on ESPN2 on May 24, 2009 from 11:00-12:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
