Singapore GP F1 readies for the inaugural run

Singapore Grand Prix is all set to stage a major milestone in the history of F1 racing by staging its inaugural run on the new race tracks of Singapore on 28th of September 2008 in the Marina Bay area. This also will be Formula One's first night race. The events around the F1 race are spread over the weekend beginning September 26. Two days of practice runs will each average 50,000 visitors to the race circuit while around 100,000 people, including 40,000 overseas visitors, are expected to attend the 800th Formula One World Championship race. The race would take place on a 5.067 kilometer track and will be illuminated by a series of projectors which adapt their output to match the shape of the course. This 61-lap circuit will run in an anti-clockwise direction - making it only one of three on the F1 schedule in 2008.

The race will take the drivers along Singapore's historical landmarks, including the 100-year-old Anderson Bridge and the Raffles Boulevard. And what's more unique is the setting up of a state-of-the-art lighting system.

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel), the title sponsor of the event, had unveiled trophies on 18th September'08. The trophy designed by an award-winning multi-disciplinary local artist, Zulkifle Mahmod, is layered with 20 pewter panels in various sizes that projected iconic colours of the chequered flag.

The official name of the event is FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix and it has been co-funded by the Government of Singapore, footing 60 per cent of the total bill. The total costs of the event have been estimated to be around US$ 150 million, though it could not be officially confirmed.

The fifteenth race of the 2008 season sees Bridgestone revert to its 'soft' and 'super soft' tyres for the mix of slow-, medium- and high-speed corners and top speeds approaching 300kph, but with an added element as most of the action will take place after dark.

One of the websites has cited that around 80,000 tickets were available out of which 95 per cent has already been sold out. Passes have also been doled out to a huge section of people. Over 70 per of the corporate hospitality packages have now been sold, including all the Sky Suites at the Pit Grandstand, Pit Exit and Turns 1 and 2, in addition to the Club Suites at the Pit Entry.

LOS ANGELES—As a prelude to November’s 41st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, SCORE International has announced that a LIVE drawing for starting positions will be held during an open-house on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the newest Off Road Warehouse facility in Temecula, Calif.
With over 300 entries expected from 30 U.S. States and a dozen countries to compete in 27 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs, the granddaddy of all desert races will be held Nov. 19-23 in Ensenada, Mexico. Completing its 35th year as the World’s foremost desert racing sanctioning body, the event is the finale of the five-race 2008 SCORE Desert Series.
The SCORE Baja 1000 day at the Off Road Warehouse in Temecula will run from Noon until 5 p.m. and the actual live drawing will be held for start positions, by class, at 2 p.m.
Open to the public at no charge the special day at the store, located at 26901 Jefferson Avenue (just north of the Winchester exit on I-15), will include refreshments, a vendor’s village, along with appearances by several of the top SCORE desert racers and numerous SCORE desert racing vehicles on display. There will also be special showings of SCORE Baja official race DVDs.
“We are grateful and excited about this offer to have a live drawing for our flagship event at Randy Weisser’s newest Off Road Warehouse,” said Sal Fish, the legendary desert racing pioneer who has been part of SCORE since soon after it was founded in 1973. “ORW is a very strong supporter of SCORE desert racers and Randy and his team have been around desert racing as long as I have.”
“It’s always enjoyable to get together with racers and crews when the atmosphere is more relaxed than at a race. Our sport raises the intensity level very high so it’s great to get together when we can relax and tell some of our unique desert racing stories.”
The new 6,000-square foot ORW Temecula store is the fifth outlet of the popular group in San Diego County. Off Road Warehouse, headquartered in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego has been a racer’s favorite since 1972 and the Temecula store will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 27. With over 1 million items to choose from, ORW outlets present over 600 product lines in their colorful showrooms.
Leading the group of racers and vehicles on display B.J. Baldwin, Andy McMillin as well as the All German Motorsports’ BMW-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car that races in the unlimited Class 1 in the SCORE Desert Series.
Currently second in 2008 SCORE Class 1 point standings, Martin Christensen, of Escondido, Calif., the team’s second driver, will be part of the festivities on Oct. 11. Driver of record for the team this year is Germany’s Armin Schwarz, a veteran World Rally Championship series driver. The team has won their class this year both in March’s Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and the recent SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300.
Baldwin, of Las Vegas, was the 2006 SCORE Trophy-Truck season point champion and is the current SCORE Trophy-Truck point leader in the No. 97 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado.
Part of the legendary McMillin Motorsports team of San Diego, Andy McMillin, a third-generation desert racer, was the 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 overall winner with Robby Gordon. McMillin drives the No. 31 McMillin Motorsports Chevy CK1500 SCORE Trophy-Truck.
SCORE International, founded in 1973 by the late Mickey Thompson and headed by Sal Fish since 1974, continues today as the premier sanctioning body in the sport of desert racing. SCORE races feature 17 Pro and three Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in the U.S. with 10 additional Pro and three more Sportsman classes for motorcycles and ATVs competing in the races in Mexico. SCORE races in the U.S. average nearly 200 entries while the average in Mexico, with motorcycle and ATV classes running as well as the cars and trucks is over 300.

Rick Huseman Earns Co-Leader Title in CORR Pro 4 Championship Point's Race

Rick Huseman Earns Co-Leader Title in CORR Pro 4 Championship Point's Race after Tough Weekend at Chula Vista International Raceway

Riverside, CALIFORNIA - By the time Sunday's Round 12 was over, Rick Huseman, driver of the No.3 FABTECH/Toyota TRD/Toyo Tires/TRAXXAS Pro 4, claimed a 50% share of the top spot in the 2008 CORR Pro 4 Series race for the championship with last year's champion, Carl Renezeder.

The weekend's fireworks kicked off early on Friday afternoon as the Riverside, California native set the stage for a battle in the dirt by setting the fastest qualifying time in his sleek Pro 4 race truck.

husemanSaturday's Round 11 race aired live on SPEED Channel in front of a packed house at San Diego's Chula Vista International Raceway. Rick's dominant performance in qualifying set the tone for not only the FABTECH race truck driver, but for the throngs of fans, family and crew who gathered beneath the blue and white tent at Rick Huseman Racing race headquarters.

"We were really strong in Friday's qualifying and it's always a good thing to come out of the box running fast. The track conditions were perfect for our Toyo Tires and Toyota TRD provided us with an engine package that wicked up the power and put it to the ground," explained Huseman.

With only five rounds of racing remaining, the importance of culminating championship points was on everyone's mind this race weekend. As race teams forged into the competition, it was a make or break for a few who were on the edge of not being able to play catch up after this weekend of racing. With a tremendous amount of work to be done before the final race weekend of the season, Rick Huseman was all business as he climbed into his office chair behind the steering wheel of his Pro 4.

After a superb qualifying effort on Friday afternoon, the mandatory inversion put Huseman in row four for the start of the race. However, it wasn't long before he began moving up through the field and by the halfway mark of Saturday's main event, the No.3 was vying for the top spot alongside Greaves and Renezeder.

"The beginning of the race is always tenacious and after a few laps, things begin to settle down a bit. The team has worked very hard battling adversity throughout the season and it's my job to get off the start clean and set the stage for a strong run. Working together with my spotter, we were able to run some fast clean lines in the first half of the race," commented the veteran Pro 4 racer.

husemanAs soon as the green flag dropped after the mandatory midway caution lap , Huseman battled for the lead, putting his Toyota TRD power plant, FABTECH suspension and Toyo Tires to the extreme test in his push for the checkered flag. He came up just short ending in fourth spot in the Saturday main event.

Sunday's Round 12 was spectacular from the onset as the race start was marred when a huge group of mid-pack race trucks were involved in a crash incident. This sent several drivers to the hot pits for repairs, while CORR officials lined up the race for a restart.

When the race restarted, it was the FABTECH/Toyota TRD/Toyo Tires/TRAXXAS No.3 that jumped to the front and never stopped pushing until he suffered a sudden mechanical failure on lap twelve.

"We had a good run going, but we got hit by the "unlucky stick" and suffered a serious mechanical issue that forced us to run off the pace. We ended up just off the podium in fourth place for the second day in a row. We'll take that and head into the final three races of the season. We've got a six-week layoff between this past weekend's races and the Las Vegas-Primm International Raceway event, so we'll head back to the shop and prep this truck for a run towards the season championship," Huseman said.

Combining a weekend of fourth place finishes tied Huseman for first place with reigning Pro 4 champion, Carl Renezeder. Each of the racers has a season total of 1108 points, which is 30 points over their closest competitor.

"I'm proud of the crew. They gave me a great race truck all weekend long and with three races left in the season, I'm confident that we will be banging the drums in contention for the top spot in the race for the series championship," regarded Rick.
Saturday's Round 11 of the 2008 CORR Series will be re-broadcasted on Speed Channel at different times in your local areas. Sunday's Round 12 will be broadcasted on Sunday, October 5, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on NBC Sports. Check your local listings for updated television broadcast times.

SCORE Desert Series Updated Point Leaders

B.J. Baldwin leads SCORE Trophy-Truck
Class 1-2/1600 racer Adam Pfankuch leads class and Overall
2008 SCORE Desert Series points heading to season finale

Richardson, Schwarz/Christensen are top two in unlimited Class 1 points;
LIVE Start Draw for 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 on October 11

LOS ANGELES—While the points have never been tighter all season San Diego county desert racer Adam Pfankuch still leads the Overall and Class 1-2/1600 point standings after four rounds of the five-race 2008 SCORE Desert Series.
The final round of the five-race 2008 SCORE Desert Series will be the 41st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, to be held Nov. 19-22, in Ensenada, Mexico. The LIVE drawing, by class, for the race, will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 and SCORE will be announcing the time and location in the next few days.
Pfankuch, of Carlsbad, Calif., finished third in the season-opener in Laughlin then visited the winner’s circle in the two races in Mexico and was fourth in Primm to compile 288 championship points to date. He drives a Mirage open-wheel desert race car powered by a 1600cc Volkswagen engine.
Closest to Pfankuch, 26, in the hunt for the overall title is unlimited Class 1 point leader B.J. Richardson of Las Vegas, just three points back with 285 points after four races with consistent results.
Following second place finishes in both Laughlin and San Felipe, a 10th in Ensenada and another second in Primm, Richardson, 43, a veteran desert racer, races for the Las Vegas Dissemination Company team in a Chevy-powered Bunderson open-wheel desert race car that is prepped by Valley Performance of Las Vegas.
Las Vegas’ B.J. Baldwin, 29, leads the extremely close point’s race in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division in the No. 97 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado with 271 points, just 17 behind Richardson.
Pfankuch, who owns Powerbox Transaxles, has been the second driver for two season point championship teams. He was the second driver for the title team in Class 1-2/1600 SCORE points both in 2003 (with Eric Allen) and in 2004 (with Brian Jeffrey). In 2004, the Jeffrey/Pfankuch tandem was also the SCORE Overall Point champions.
In Laughlin, Pfankuch finished third and then drove solo again to win his class in March’s 22nd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in his 2005 Mirage-VW. In the 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 500, May 31-June 1 in Ensenada, Mexico, Pfankuch also raced in Class 1 and helping him win Class 1-2/1600 by splitting the driving duties was Steven Eugenio, El Centro, Calif. Pfankuch drove solo at the 13th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, overcoming various mechanical issues to finish four in class to keep his overall and class point leads.
Baldwin, 29, was the the 2006 SCORE Trophy-Truck season point champion, and this year was second in Laughlin, seventh in San Felipe and earned his third career SCORE Trophy-Truck race win in Ensenada, but slipped to 10th in Primm to keep his point lead but see margin get smaller in the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks. Baldwin drives solo in the No. 97 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado.
Pfankuch will be doubly busy in Baja this year as he now is also the second driver for the Class 1 All German Motorsports Team’s second entry. Driver of record is Germany’s Armin Kremer. Pfankuch has yet to name his second driver in Class 1-2/1600 for November’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
“We are knocking on the door, but we have the granddaddy of all desert races to conquer before we can take a breath and enjoy what we have done this year in the SCORE Series,” said Pfankuch. “Between my business and opportunities to race in other classes, I’m still trying hard to keep my focus, and now it’s all on the line and I want to win both Class 1-2/1600 for myself and Class 1 for the All German Motorsports team.”
The All German Motorsports team of Germany’s Armin Schwarz and Martin Christensen, of Escondido, Calif., are fourth in overall points and second in Class 1. After pulling off their second Class 1 victory of the season in Primm, the Schwarz/Christensen duo have moved into contention for both the 2008 Class 1 and the SCORE Overall point title with 269 championship points.
Fifth in overall points is Corey Boyer, of Bakersfield, Calif., who is second in the current point standings in Class 1-2/1600 behind Pfankuch with 268 points.
Boyer, 23, is a second-generation desert racer who along with his father Rick and brothers Greg and Chris, have spent much of their lives in the desert. Boyer, who works for the family-owned Asbury Transportation trucking business in Bakersfield, was planning on running select SCORE races this year and decided just three days before Laughlin to go ahead and race and go from there. The result was he brought the Boyer Racing Lothringer-VW to the checkered flag in first place in the two-day 14th SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and top 10 finishes they rest of the way have kept him close to the front in points.
While the top five SCORE Overall point leaders are separated by just 20 points, the second five are separated by just five points and the third five are separated by just six points.
Mexico’s Marcos Nunez, with two class wins this year, leads Class 5/1600 and is sixth in overall points with 257 in a 1600cc VW Baja Bug.
Seventh overall is Class 3 point leader Donald Moss, Sacramento, Calif., who is undefeated this season with four wins and 255 points in the Moss Brothers Ford Bronco.
With one race win this year and a second in Primm, Las Vegas’ Brian Collins has moved up to eighth overall and second in the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division with 254 points in the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram 1500.
Teammates Mark Post, Laguna Beach, Calif./Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas, are third in SCORE Trophy-Truck points and ninth overall with 253 points, just one point behind Collins. Post/MacCachren, with a pair of second place finishes this season, are the reigning SCORE Trophy-Truck and SCORE Overall point champions in the No. 1 Riviera Racing Ford F-150. They have 14 career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins between them.
With three class wins this season, Mexico’s Ramon Fernandez leads Class 11 and is 10th overall with 252 points in a stock VW Sedan.
Numbers 11th through 15th in SCORE Overall points are: Chuck Dempsey, Oak Hills, Calif./Mark Levrett, Sparks, Nev. (251 points, HMS-Chevy, 3rd in Class 1), Kevin Carr, San Diego (249, unlimited VW Baja Bug, 1st in Class 5), Robbie Pierce, Santee, Calif. (247, No. 35 MasterCraft Chevy Silverado, 4th in SCORE Trophy-Truck), and tied for 14th with 246 points each are: Damen Jefferies, Apple Valley, Calif. (No. 22 Herman Motorsports Chevy Silverado, 5th in SCORE Trophy-Truck) and Luis Ramirez Jr., Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (HMS-Chevy, 4th in Class 1).
With motorcycles and ATVs racing in the three SCORE Baja races, the team of Robby Bell, Sun City, Calif./Kendall Norman, Santa Barbara, Calif./Johnny Campbell, San Clemente, Calif., lead the overall motorcycle and open Class 22 standings with 168 points after winning both in San Felipe and Ensenada on the factory-supported No. 1x Johnny Campbell Racing Honda CRF450X. Bell/Campbell won in San Felipe and Bell/Norman won in Ensenada.
On top of the ATV classes overall is the Class 24 team of Francisco Servin/Isaac Castro/Rocky Merino, of Chula Vista, Calif., with 73 points on a Honda TRX450R after their San Felipe and Ensenada race wins.
Rod Hall, who has 13 career SCORE class season point titles including three SCORE Overall point championships, leads the Stock Mini class in a Hummer H3 with three class wins this season.
Heidi Steele, San Clemente, Calif., has two class wins this season and was second in Primm and leads Class 7SX in a Ford Ranger.
Besides Steele, the other female racer who is leading a SCORE class so far in 2008 is Anna Cody, Spring Valley, Calif., who leads an all-female motorcycle team in Class 20 with one race win with co-riders Stacy Doerkson, Apple Valley, Calif./Cathy Duncan, Los Alamos, Calif./Sarah Kritch, Bakersfield, Calif., on a Honda CRF250X.
Among the car and truck classes, other point leaders after two races include: Dan Chamlee, Cupertino, Calif. (Class 7, Ford Ranger), Mike Lawrence, Brea, Calif. (Class 10, Lothringer-VW), Steve Mamer, Holtville, Calif. (SCORE Lite, Raceco-VW) and Chad Hall, Reno, Nev. (Stock Full, Hummer H3Alpha). Hall has two class wins this season while Chamlee has one and Lawrence and Mamer are leading their class point standings without a win so far.

HMS F&L Fuels 250 Race Report

Hostyl Motorsports Race Report

F&L Fuel 250

September 13, 2008

After a less than impressive night race experience that lasted all of six miles, the HMS Jeepspeed was definitely looking for some sort of redemption at the F&L Fuel 250. With a ton of work done and a laundry list of parts replaced from Julys Trailglow Night race by the entire HMS crew, we were very confident on how the jeep would perform this time.

Jesse Martin and I, Bryan Dodge head towards Lucerne Valley, California two days prior to race day to get setup, as well as prerun the course on Friday before the race. After setting up pit we head out with fellow Cartoon Network member Eric Helgison and Mike Slater in the 1708 jeep, on a prerun to set our course for race day. The prerun for us went flawless, not an issue to be had, which is a drastic change after last race. We are confident after one lap that we are ready to tackle this course and shoot for the podium. Later that day we head towards contingency and tech to get the jeep all entered as well as to sign up for the race. We request to start last so that we may be able to know just where we stand on position as we pass people. Everything goes well as planned and we head back to the pit to do a once over on the jeep get it ready to rock. Checking everything over Jesse finds that there are zero issues on the vehicle, so we top off the fuel and are ready for race day.

Race day comes and I am nervous but ready. We begin our line up and we start number 19 of 19 jeeps in our class. One jeep actually ends up starting behind us due to them having an electrical issue; this didn’t bother us at all. We have our minds set and ready to go for it all. Off the line we are conservative due to dust as well as traffic, we get out of pit lane and are off on our first lap allowing all of the parts to warm up properly so they may perform at their highest degree. Almost immediately we begin to pass several cars in the rough, this being from the amazing shocks from Radflo as well as our prerun from the day prior. The lap continues without a hiccup or issue at all, all while passing more and more carnage from our class as well as the others. Lap 2 begins again without issue, the jeep is performing better than ever, and we are in it to win it for sure. Continuing on course we are passing jeeps from our class as well as others, the jeep is amazing and Jesse is calling out the course so well I could have driven blind. End of lap 2 we are ready to come in and do a fuel stop as well as a once over check of the jeep to make sure that nothing obvious has happened. As Jesse’s dad as well as mine, are fueling the jeep Danny Devore is checking the jeep. The pit stop went flawless, we take about 15 gallons of fuel and we are off in no more than a minute and a half. Back on the course we step up the pace considerably, the jeep still acting flawless and we are getting more and more confident with our knowledge of the track. We are flying at this point until about mile 28 or so we start to feel the handling change somewhat, and realize that we are loosing the driver’s front tires. We get out; change the tire, which takes forever due to no power tools to help, and then continue to watch as the Dust Junkies 1706 wrangler passes as we are finishing our change. We get buckled in and are off once again. Pushing the jeep to a point that we have never been, and to the point that Jesse and I are ready to watch the rear of the jeep pass the front through certain sections we end the third lap. Since this is the last lap we step it up another notch and go through the main pit area like no other. We are on it for sure. We hit the first corner try to down shift, and tink I hear a noise that isn’t normal at all. I go to accelerate and nothing in third gear, so I reach for fourth, still nothing. At this point we have had an amazing race and could not fathom the thought of being out of the race this close to the end and doing so well. Finally I put it into fifth gear and praise the Lord there is something. Only problem is that the gears we have left are 1st, 2nd and 5th, due to the fact that 75% of our race is/was done in 3rd and 4th gear this would be interesting. Well at this point I tell Jesse that we are going into finish mode. Let me tell you how entertaining it was to go from 5500rpms to 1000rpms when switching from 2nd to 5th. It was defiantly a learning experience to find out just what this Hesco motor can do. Having issues with our clutch we need to stop and add fluid at our remote pit with the team of guys from DOKS racing that have been helping out without really being part of the action. We take a minute, a drink of water, some fluids and we are off again heading towards the checkered flag. With only the one issue we do our best to finish this lap, at one point a jeep was seen in our mirror, but that just told us to step it up somewhat. At this point we know that we are strongly in the 3rd position so we bring the jeep home to the finish line remaining in the 3rd position in one piece without anymore damage being suffered.

Crossing the finish line, what a feeling knowing the issues we had been dealing with all day. Now onto the fun part, post race tech. We begin by them checking our wheel travel because we are only allowed 10” front and 12” rear; we pass this with length to spare. Now onto the motor, well when the new motor was installed in January we made a “temporary” engine cage crossbar. Since it was doing its job, we had no reason to remove it until now. Time to break out the sawzall and cut some tube, this drew quite the crowd of people wondering just what is going to happen. After removing that tube we could easily remove the valve cover and other parts to ready ourselves for the displacement test on our motor. To the dislike of many we pass with flying colors and hopefully put to rest any questions about our engine being illegal for class rules.

Now onto the thank you’s. We would first like to thank our families for supporting us in our racing ventures. I personally would like to thank my wife who stayed home with my almost 2 year old daughter and 1month old son. I know she had her hands full to say the least. I would also like to personally thank Jesse Martin for all of the long hard nights getting the jeep ready to race after a long day of work or school, without your work the jeep would be no where near what it is now. Danny Devore, who knows the jeep better than his own vehicles, thanks again for sure. But now just because you work for Geisers does not mean you forget about us little guys! J J To the team of helpers from DOKS racing, Paul, Matt and Cody, thanks a ton and sorry for not including you on the Primm report. To our dads for the fueling and other support both financially and mentally we owe you. To our sponsors that helped us get to this point, Glenn and Radflo Shocks, amazing to say the least. We could not do the speeds we were if we were not in control with the help of your shocks. Absolute Offroad and owner Joe Daro, it is a pleasure to have you guys onboard now. Trailmaster Suspensions and Copperstate Nut & Bolt, thanks you for your continuing help. racers and ranchers

Racers and Ranchers is pleased to announce our third community service project in support of our mission to establish and preserve relationships between Baja’s land owners and those who enjoy the sport of off-roading. In conjunction with Ejidatario Sierra Juarez, Racers and Ranchers will conduct a “makeover” of a small community building used by the Ejidatario for cooking and serving meals. The building is part of an Ejidatario area used by local ranchers for meetings, community events, children’s parties, etc. It is located at El Aserradero (“Sawmill”), across from the famous Ramona’s on the south side of the Parque Nacional, approximately 48 miles east of Ensenada.

The building requires a roof, windows, doors, paint and a general clean-up. Racers and Ranchers is assessing the materials and manpower required and has planned a 2-day working event on Saturday and Sunday, October 18 and 19, 2008.

Ejidatario Sierra Juarez consists of several ranch and land owners in the Sierra Juarez range, of which Familia Ramona is one. Many are off-roaders themselves and want to help in improving relationships with the many off-road visitors in an effort to keep speeds and dust minimized, gates and fences intact, preservation of riding privileges, and overall safety in the area. Racers and Ranchers thinks this is an outstanding opportunity to “give back” what many off-roaders have long taken for granted.

Racers and Ranchers is seeking present and future members to assist in the makeover. If you are adept at pounding some nails, rolling or brushing paint, or other simple “makeover” chores, we need your help. If you are challenged in this respect, we can also use some help in general clean-up.

Additionally, Racers and Ranchers is looking for donations of building materials such as wood, nails, doors, windows, paint, brushes, furnishings, etc. plus loan of some tools. Detailed lists will be provided shortly.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. The cost of the event will be a donation split equally by participants for the purchase of any remaining items required to complete the makeover after seeing what materials our members can offer. We hope to arrive at a figure at the end of next week.

Participants are requested to meet across from Ramona’s on Saturday, October 18, at 11AM. We will knock off before sunset and re-commence Sunday morning at 8AM for a half day’s work. Participants are responsible for their own lodging, but can be obtained camping at the beautiful Laguna Hanson in the National Park, several Ensenada hotels, or haciendas at Rancho Rodeo del Rey or Rancho Santa Veronica. The event is designed for participants to drive or ride to Ramona’s on Saturday morning and drive/ride back on Sunday afternoon. Burrito lunch is available at El Aserradero (Sawmill) and a Saturday evening barbeque is being planned, location TBD.

SPEED TECHNOLOGIES AND BULLY DOG’S CASEY CURRIE TAKES 2ND IN PRO-LITE DURING ROUNDS 11 & 12 AT CHULA VISTA

SPEED TECHNOLOGIES AND BULLY DOG’S CASEY CURRIE TAKES 2ND IN PRO-LITE DURING ROUNDS 11 & 12 AT CHULA VISTA

-First year driver Chuck Dempsey conquers 8th Place-

Chula Vista, CA (September 15th) – Casey Currie fought hard and fast to capture his podium finish this past weekend during rounds 11 & 12 of the 2008 CORR race season. After having a tough time during the first qualifying round and starting 9th Currie managed to come back and finish less than one second behind Marty Hart for a second place finish – his third podium this year.

“Going into the weekend we felt like we had a fast truck,” Currie said. “After grueling testing we knew that the truck was ready to handle anything the race could throw at it”

Currie started round 11 in the 5th row and by the second last he was already in the sixth position – he started picking off his competitors one by one and found himself sitting in 4th by the halfway point of the race. Knowing the truck was fast and furious, Currie went deep into the first turn after the caution lap, but another driver hit the back of him and took him out. Currie managed to finish the first round in 17th place and his crew spent the better part of the night getting the truck ready for round 12.

Round 12 proved to be a winning combination for Currie – a fast truck, a 3rd place start and a strong lead during the first half of the race. Currie and Marty Hart battled it out during the entire race attacking each other and fighting for that first place finish. Though Currie didn’t manage to pull into first place his 2nd place finish was only five tenths of a second behind the winner.

"I needed one more lap,” Currie said. “I have never been able to actually battle the leaders so it was something new that I needed to learn – I think the experience really helped me grow as a driver. We are ready for Primm!”

Williams F1 to design cars for Formula Two series

Williams will design cars for the low-cost Formula Two championship due to replace GP2 as Formula One's feeder series next season, motor racing's governing body said on Monday.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that Motor Sport Vision (MSV), run by British former grand prix driver Jonathan Palmer, had won the tender to supply chassis and engines as well as promote the new series.

MSV had in turn commissioned Williams to design the car, with 1.8 litre Audi engines and to be built to Formula One safety standards.

The first prototype will be tested in November before the 16-race championship starts in May next year.

The FIA said performance levels would be between Formula Three and Formula One with the cost per competing driver put at less than 250,000 euros (198,400 pounds).

"The objective is to make top-level international single-seater racing available to drivers who at present have difficulty in raising enough money to demonstrate their talent," said FIA president Max Mosley.

"Formula One and other major championships will benefit by being able to draw on a far larger pool of drivers, while competitors from countries which do not yet have an established motor racing structure will find it easier to make progress.

"We hope to reveal talent that might otherwise never have emerged and we look forward to seeing drivers coming into Formula One with Super Licences gained in Formula Two."

Palmer was Formula Two champion in 1983 while MSV owns five circuits in Britain, including Brands Hatch, while also running the Formula Palmer Audi series.
