* LOS ANGELES—*SCORE International officials announced today that for
the first-time in SCORE history, through the efforts of Rally Track,
unofficial checkpoint passing times will be posted on
/*www.SCORE-international.com*/
during this weekend's record-setting 39th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500.
With a SCORE-record of over 525 official entries expected, Round 3
of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series, the World's Foremost Desert
Racing Series, featuring a race-record lineup of nearly 500 entries
competing in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks,
motorcycles and ATVs, the 420.11-mile race will be held Saturday and
Sunday in Ensenada, Mexico.
With technology developed by RallyTrack.com of Lakewood, Calif.,
each of the four official SCORE checkpoints in the race will be supplied
a specially-designed, ruggedized satellite communications system to
relay the unofficial passing time of every vehicle, by class, to SCORE
Operations as well as posting the data on the SCORE website. The
RallyTrack.com computer system expects to update the data on the SCORE
website approximately every 10 minutes. The data will also be posted in
the finish line area of the race.
"All of us are extremely enthusiastic regarding this new element in
our SCORE racing program," said Paul Fish, SCORE Vice-President. "While
this significantly impacts our continuing efforts to enhance the
organization and execution of our races, it also assists race teams,
media, sponsors and fans in tracking the progress of all vehicles in the
race. This is serious research and development for us and we will use
this event to help Rally Track develop their special software even more."
Rally Track has worked with SCORE International for the past three
years, providing the 'black box' rally loggers that track pertinent
information on all vehicles in every SCORE race.
"The entry numbers have continued to grow much higher than we ever
planned for," said Craig Reitz, President of RallyTrack.com. "In return,
we a very excited to increase the services already offered by
RallyTrack.com with a special satellite communications system for every
check point at no additional cost to SCORE or its racers."
Motorcycle and ATV classes will start at 6 a.m. Saturday, followed
by the Cars and Trucks at approximately 10 a.m., there will be a 20-hour
time limit for all vehicles to finish the course in the elapsed-time
race. Motorcycles and ATVs will start one every 15 seconds while the
faster car and truck classes will start one every 30 seconds and the
slower car and truck classes will start one every 15 seconds.
The 2007 SCORE Desert Series also includes the chase for the $75,000
Kartek Off-Road contingency bonus to be awarded to several 2007 SCORE
Class point champions along with the run for the $12,000 Toyota True
